And so it continues…here’s the scoop on YEAR FIVE!!

Happy back to school everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I get excited for new beginnings.  And, this year is no exception.  I cannot wait to get started with your daughters in bible study again.  The coolest part is that we really aren’t beginning something new.  We are CONTINUING something really deep and sweet and beautiful that was begun over four years ago.  This year at Tween Time is YEAR FIVE!  Can you believe it??  I need to make sure your girls understand something: I am VERY aware that many of them are no longer “tweens”.  Just look at them!  They are growing more and more beautiful inside and out!  (Most of them are taller than me now.  Not that passing up 5’2″ is that hard to do.)  So, while “Tween Time” may no longer be an accurate name, I am not as interested in re-naming us as I am in growing our friendships and deepening our love for Christ as we seek Him together.  Whatever we are called, we are about what we have always been about: FAITH, FRIENDSHIP, and FUN.

And, that leads me to our theme for this year: WHATEVER.  Last year we learned that the Bible is one big story, that God is writing each of our stories, and that our generation is at a specific place in God’s story.  With that in mind, we want to encourage our girls that WHATEVER God has created them to do–WHATEVER they are passionate about, gifted at, called to do–they can live their lives daily for God’s glory and kingdom purposes.  Our theme is based on Colossians 3:23-24, which says, “WHATEVER you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ”

In keeping with the spirit of our theme, this year I have encouraged each of our leaders to do WHATEVER works for them and their own daughters regarding Tween Time.  That means that each leader will be choosing their own day, time, curriculum, and activities.  As our daughters are growing up, I have also encouraged the leaders to engage the girls in a dialogue about what kind of group they would like to have.

Even though we will have multiple groups doing different studies, we will work together to have a group event or two as the year goes on so that the girls can see that they are a part of a bigger neighborhood thing.  Truly a God-thing.  Because, trust me, I didn’t know in 2011 that we would still be doing this.  What a blessing!

There are a few changes we are making that are worth noting: 1) There will be no online registration.  2) Girls can attend any group that fits them. We will not be assigning girls to groups.

Click on this link to view the listing of available groups.

Here’s how to join this year: Choose the group that best fits your daughter and show up on the start date!  (Note that the start dates differ.)  It’s that easy.

The $50 participation fee (for the whole year) will remain the same for all groups for ease of accounting.  Remember that the fees simply cover bible study materials (each girl will have a workbook), t-shirts, and snacks (the bulk of the cost).  As always, if you cannot pay, this will not keep us from serving your daughter.  Fees can be paid where you attend.  You may still pay online with a credit card, with cash, or with a check made out to Tween Time or Audrey’s Harvest.

If you look at the list of groups and say, “None of these groups works for my family’s schedule.”  Then, I beg you, please consider being a hostess/leader!  Let me tell you a little bit about the women leading this ministry…

We are just moms (and grandmas!) who love Jesus.  We believe the Bible is true.  We want to know what it says.  We want our daughters to know what it says, too.  And, so we are being intentional about taking time to learn alongside them.  We are so convinced that what is in the Bible is GOOD NEWS that we want to share it with others in our community.  We want our daughters to form lasting friendships and be equipped to live out their faith in their everyday lives.  That’s it.  It is that simple.

If you can say, “Hey, that sounds like me!”, then this ministry may be for YOU, too.  When I say our theme is “WHATEVER”, I really mean that we are super flexible on the logistics.  You don’t have to host 50 girls at your house each week to have a successful group (You can state your limit).  You don’t have to meet weekly.  You don’t have to start in September.  You don’t have to be a Bible scholar.  You don’t have to sing or play guitar or lead worship.  You don’t have to do things like we have done them in the past.  This is about sharing the same heart and passion for Jesus and for our girls.  If you are feeling a tug at your heart, call me.  Perhaps you should take a leap of faith this year?  The only way this ministry continues is if more mamas join in the fun.

Let me know if you have any questions for me.  As always, we are hoping that many of your precious children will join us.  Praying for them.  Praying for our community.  May we be a city on a hill shining Jesus’ light brightly.

Tween Time is Preparing for the Fall

Hello everyone,

Well, we are in the thick of summer…but we only have FOUR weeks until school starts!  That means that the creative wheels are turning amongst the leaders here at Tween Time.  If you have been involved with us for very long, you know that no two years have been the same.  And, this year will be no exception!  Lots of good things are in the works!

It’s looking like we are going to be making game-time decisions regarding host homes, available groups, schedules, etc.  SO…

1) Please pray for direction for our leaders about their commitment to Tween Time for this year.

2) Please let us know if you would like to get involved and volunteer.  We can use YOU!  (We specifically could use a host home for Fern Bluff’s elementary (4th-5th) group.)

3) Please be patient with us–but don’t count us out!  Look for information around the time school starts.  We will likely begin during the 2nd or 3rd week of school.

We are praying for you and your girls.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to build relationships as we follow Christ together in our neighborhood.

FUN Middle School Event TOMORROW Night!

Attention 6th-8th grade Tween Timers,

As our fifth grade girls transition from 5th grade to middle school – it’s also time to transition from Tween Time to T2.  We need the older girls to help welcome our newest middle schoolers!

We are hosting another TRANSITIONS night – and one you won’t want to miss.

DATE: Sunday, July 19, 2015 (THIS SUNDAY NIGHT.)

TIME: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. (Eat dinner before you come…dessert will be provided.)

LOCATION: Waiwaiole House (7108 Black Rock Bend, RR – My cell is 512-762-6398.)

BRING: Swim Suit and Towel (We have bibles….)

RSVP by Sunday morning at 10:00 – just so I know how much dessert to have on hand.

Please bring friends – and friends from other schools that are going to middle school .

The girls are going to LOVE the guest speaker!!! It’s Ms. Raegan Grantham, Choir Teacher at Chisolm Trail Middle School. This is a GREAT opportunity to hear from a teacher about her faith journey – and also already have a ‘friend’ in Christ- the first day of school.

Extra Drivers Needed for Camp!

The good news is that we had a great turnout for Pine Cove next weekend!  The bad news is that we may be short a few seatbelts to get everyone there and back.  Would any of you be willing to drive a carload?  Even just ONE WAY?  Please let me know ASAP if you are able to help out.  I am confident that God will provide.  I am looking particularly for parents of our middle school girls.  Thank you in advance!!

We are offering Passport 2 Purity again this year! Sign up NOW.

Cathy Shaw and her daughter Leelee have been offering Passport 2 Purity at their home for the last two years, and many of our mothers and daughters have taken advantage of this opportunity to discuss peer pressure, dating, love, and sex from a biblical perspective.

I hope that if you have NOT participated in the past, you will consider looking through the attached flyer and letter from Cathy.

I have attended with both of my big girls, and I am SO glad I did.  I was very impressed with the content.  Take a look!  Hope you can join in.

You’re Invited THIS Sunday…

A couple of years ago, our Tween Time girls collected items to bless the Hailes family members (Cathy McLeod’s sister’s family) who serve as missionaries in Madagascar.  Well, they are in town and speaking THIS Sunday at Central Baptist Church!

Please click on this link to view an invitation to come meet the Hailes in person and hear an update on their mission.

Hope some of you can join us!

Let’s Talk Money

Hi friends,

Wanted to update you all on our financial status here at Audrey’s Harvest.  We have had a wonderful year with fantastic participation–about 124 girls in attendance each week!  It’s a good problem to have, but our hungry little girlies have nearly eaten us out of house and home!

As we approach the end of the semester, we have reached the bottom of the bank account.  This is mainly due to the fact that we have collected less than 60% of member registration fees for the year.

If you have not paid your child’s registration fee this year, we humbly request that you do so if at all possible.  Your child’s leader may be contacting you soon to make this request.  She will have access to our records (just in case you are not sure if you have paid).

FYI, our only expenses this year have been snacks (the majority of our budget, $1.25 per child per week), bibles for two households to use weekly, and a refundable deposit to Pine Cove for our retreat.  We have kept it REALLY simple.

With that said, there are some “extras” we would like to pay for if our funds would allow. If God prompts you to give above and beyond the registration fee, we would be grateful to accept your donation.  Here is a sample “wish list” that we could begin to address if you choose to contribute:

  • financial assistance for kids who cannot pay for retreat
  • financial assistance for leaders who cannot pay for retreat (some of them have multiple children of their own to pay for as well–AND they are driving!)(this would be a nice thank you for the time they spend preparing, teaching, and loving your kiddos!)
  • retreat cost for our volunteer worship leader
  • a special reward for elementary students who have completed this year’s Scripture memory challenge
  • a small gift for this year’s 5th grade graduates at the end of the year

Thank you in advance for making this ministry possible with your fees and donations.  We are so happy to have the opportunity to spend time with your girls each week.

Welcome to a new year at Tween Time!

Welcome to a new year at Tween Time!  T2 starts TUESDAY, SEPT 2, 4-5:30 p.m.  Tween Time starts THURSDAY, SEPT 4, 3-5 p.m.

Leaders met yesterday to plan.  If your daughter is registered, you will be receiving a phone call and/or email from her leader giving you details about where to be and when.  If your daughter is not yet registered, she can still visit next week with a friend.  (locations posted on the website page: “weekly meeting locations and times”)  Or, you may register her at any time and one of us will call with a group assignment.

In the last few years, our middle school group has grown so big that we have had to divide over four households.  As a team, we want you to know how hard this is for us–we get very attached to your kids!  In essence, we have to share, and that is hard for us.  We each want EVERY ONE of your kids at OUR house!  With that said, please know that we considered lots of factors when dividing girls into groups–friend and leader requests, transportation issues, equal division amongst homes, serving two middle schools, etc.  We did our best to make sure every girl would be in a place where she can thrive.  But, we were not able to honor all requests.  We hope you’ll give your new place a try for a while before asking to be switched if at all possible.  But, we are also flexible people.  Give us a call if your daughter’s group isn’t working for you.

If your daughter does end up in a new leader’s group, let me assure you that our team is amazing.  Each one of these ladies have become my best friends.  They are positive, loving, reliable, trustworthy, intelligent, and devoted to our ministry.  Most of all, they are devoted to Christ and to sharing His love with your child.  I know you’ll love every one of our team members when you get to know them!

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me or any one of our leaders (contact info listed on “weekly meeting locations and times” page).

Love to each and every one of you!  Let’s learn a lot and have fun together this year!
